Kamal Haasan as a child artist



A legendary actor born on 7th November 1954 in Paramakudi, Madras State. Faced camera at the age of 5yrs as a child artist and from then he is edicted to experiment with characters, crossed many hurdles finally became a star by whom Indian feeling proud and he is non other than Kamal Haasan.

Kamal Haasan started his career as a child artist and Kalathur Kannamma was his first movie.He won President's Gold Medal for the movie.As a lead actor he proved with the film Apoorva Raagangal by playing youth character who will be in love with an older woman.

In 1976, Balachander cast him as a womanizer trying to woo many women in Manmadha Leelai. In 1977, he starred in his first Kannada film, Kokila, which was the directorial debut of another friend and mentor, Balu Mahendra. The same year, he acted in a Bengali film, Kabita. In 1978, he debuted in the Telugu film industry as a lead actor with the cross-cultural romantic film, Maro Charithra directed by K. Balachander. The film was regarded a cult-classic and was also Haasan's first major hit. His fourth consecutive Filmfare award came with Sigappu Rojakkal(Erra Gulabilu), an anti-hero thriller in which he played a psychopathic sexual killer.

He won four National Film Awards and 19 Filmfare Awards, and is known for having starred in the largest number of films submitted by India in contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Nayagan (Nayakudu) directed by veteran Mani Ratham is the movie in which he played a role of Don, is nominated for Oscars. Nayagan also listed in the Time magazine as one of the best films of all time. He was awarded the Padma Shri for his legendary performance in the movie INDIAN directed by Shankar. Kamal Haasan is also a recipient of an Honorary doctorate by Sathyabama University. Kamal secured his second Indian National Film Award for his portrayal of a guileless school teacher who tends a childlike amnesiac in 1982's Moondram Pirai.

Apart from acting,screenwriting and directing are his professional passions. He is a playback singer, choreographer and lyricist. His production company Rajkamal International has produced many of his films.

The ‘Lokanayakudu’ is coming up with own production and directorial ‘Vishwaroopam’, a spy thriller.
